The Key to Luxury: Playa Largo Resort & Spa

That moment you step off the plane, collect your baggage and head outside to catch your transportation to your resort. Yes, those are the moments I live for. But particularly I look most forward to the second I feel the intense heat and humidity rush over my entire body. There is nothing quite like a tropical destination, near or far. Arriving to Playa Largo Resort & Spa is no different. Let island time commence.

Playa Largo

Playa Largo Resort & Spa can be anything you want it to be. A family vacation? Romantic weekend getaway? Bachelor/Bachelorette party? Relaxing beach destination? Babymoon? It can be every single one of those. That might be one of my favorite qualities of the resort. Sprawled on 14 acres of beachfront, the activities are endless.

The Room

Checking in to Playa Largo Resort &Spa you are greeted with the most delicious specialty cocktail. After a flight it is just what you need. Upon checking in you are given a resort map (which you will need because the grounds are expansive). Room 2202 is located in the Marina Tower. Right next door to the pool, beach and gym! My room overlooked the beautiful Miramar Courtyard.

Playa Largo

Upon opening the door to my room it was love at first site. Complete with an illy coffee machine (which, admittedly, took me 15 minutes to figure out how to use), king sized bed, and balcony. What more could you need? Oh, that’s right a robe. They’ve got that covered. And I’ve got checking into hotels covered. Here’s my routine. I drop my bags, quickly change into gym clothes and head over to the gym. After I’ll take a quick dip in the pool, return to my room, shower, and throw my robe on and just sit for 20 minutes catching up on emails.

If you are looking for a place to base yourself and a large group of people, The Hammocks is the spot for you. There are 10 Bungalows and one Beach House in this area of the resort grounds. The Beach House has its own ocean-facing private pool. SWOON!

The Grounds

If you’ve followed along with my trip over on Instagram then you already know a lot about the grounds. Namely the freshwater pool and beach area.

Playa Largo

My favorite way to spend the morning? Head to the gym and then enjoy a morning dip. Not another soul is at the pool at 7am. It’s THE BEST! I can’t forget to let ya know that the pool is open 24/7/365! Yep. Care for a midnight dip with champagne, anyone?

I recommend dedicating at least one day to being lazy on the beach and the rest experiencing all of the watersports the resort offers. Swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, parasailing, fishing, sailing, boating- the list goes on. If you want to head off the resort grounds there are opportunities to swim with dolphins, tarpon feeding, cruises, and exploring John Pennekamp Living Coral Reef & Park where you can both dive and snorkel. If you are going here, find a tour that will take you to Christ of the Deep. One of the three statues of its kind in the world! The two others are in the Mediterranean Sea and off the coast of Grenada.

Ocean Spa

Treat yo’self. Start your day off right and book a treatment at Ocean Spa. When you open the door you’re greeted with aromas so fresh a feeling of tranquility overcomes your body. Did you forget to get that mani/pedi before you left? Not to worry the Ocean Spa has you covered.

The Food

With four restaurants on property why would you ever need or want to leave? La Marea is the breakfast spot. I know it’s probably going to be very hot when you visit but sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. The continental breakfast is more than enough with healthy options such as oatmeal and an omelet bar all the way to the not-so-healthy options like decadent pastries and French toast. One of my favorite things about the breakfast spread was the fresh fruit spread! Pro tip: order the iced coffee!

Playa Largo

Head to the Sandbar for lunch and barefoot cocktails. Set next to the pool and just steps away from the ocean. A salad is a must!

Tapas and libations anyone? Las Olas is the spot. Home to, perhaps, the most delicious ceviche and sushi on the East Coast. Ask the bartender for a specialty drink. Tell him or her to get creative. I don’t normally do this when ordering drinks but here it is a must! I enjoyed a delicious drink made with rosemary and lavender infused vodka, lemon juice, muddled raspberries and topped with Prosecco. Talk about refreshing!

Sol by the Sea is the dinner spot! The menu is absolutely delicious. Set right on the ocean in true Bohemian fashion. The vibe is whatever you make it. The mojitos are fresh and the food is delicious! I enjoyed the Grouper Curry. A fish dish (unintentional rhyming) is a must.

Playa Largo

Like I said before, Playa Largo Resort & Spa can be anything you make it. Lazy beach vacation? Sports filled fun? Foodie paradise? Romantic getaway? The options are endless. Set in the tropical paradise of Key Largo there is a little something for every traveler.
