Oh Rhode Island, I can’t seem to stay away from you! And for good reason. I first had the chance to explore The Ocean State when I visited Newport a few months ago. Needless to say that visit is what pulled me into this state. I had the chance to visit the capital, Providence, known for the university’s that call it home, foodie scene and arts. I explored all of the above in just a short 48 hours.
Providence Marriott Downtown
Near or far, Marriott properties never cease to amaze me. Providence Marriott Downtown was no different. The team here was so accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable. We arrived late in the evening (we being my mom and I) to a delicious fruit plate and milk & cookies. But not just any milk & cookies- gluten free cookies and almond AND soy milk. This made opening the door to room 135 at 11pm a little bit better (for those of you that don’t know, I am gluten free and dairy free). Most of the time I have to forgo the sweet treats when traveling so it was nice to “indulge” for once.
On that same note, we enjoyed dinner at The Chefs Table at Bluefin Grille, Providence Marriott Downtowns very own restaurant. This was a perfectly portioned five course meal. With my dietary restrictions in mind, Chef Franco Paterno modified every single dish so that I could enjoy the dinner to the fullest extent. Each course was paired with a complementary wine- I wanted to buy each bottle. I will let the photos do the talking:
1st Course: Stonington Red Shrimp “Cocktail” with lemon aioli, tomatoes, horseradish, and basil paired with 2016 Gooseneck Vineyards Grenache Rosé
2nd Course: Eggplant spread on Gluten Free Crostini paired with 2012 Davis Bynaum Pinot Noir
3rd Course: Fluke, Avocado, Grapefruit Salad paired with Provenance Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc
4th Course: Roasted Potatoes, Smoked Boar Broth, Fava Beans, Turnip Greens and Long Onion paired with Rutherford Ranch, Napa Valley
5th Course: Triple Berry Mousse paired with Gooseneck Vineyards Italian Prosecco
Another reason to love this property is its new bike program with Priority Bicycles! I had the chance to bike through many of the different neighborhoods of Providence which gave me an entirely new perspective of the city. I pedaled my way through Federal Hill, Broadway and Benefit St. with many different stops along the way. Learn all about their new Bike Package here.
Whether its adventure you’re seeking a spa day or a pool day, Providence Marriott Downtown is the spot to base yourself when visiting.

A few of my favorite spots are:
Seven Stars Bakery for their Matcha Lattes.
Bolt Coffee for a two in one Instagram opportunity: two murals and delicious coffee.
Sydney Providence for a trip to Australia without even stepping foot on a plane. This spot is reminiscent of Australian cafés from their menu to the airy décor. Order the avo toast on a gluten free bagel and coconut milk latte- delicious way to start your day.
PVDonuts for their…well…donuts obviously! Oh and nitro cold brew! They change their flavors daily so be sure to check out their Instagram for updates!
Hemenway’s for lunch or dinner. This spot goes down in history for me. This is the first place I tried oysters! And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. It’s also a good spot for a romantic dinner as it sits on the river.
Cap it off with drinks at Rooftop @ the Providence G at sunset. Order the Rooftop Spritzer (complete with a champagne popsicle) and enjoy the views. All of your Instagram dreams are slowly coming true!
Catch a show at Columbus Theatre or another venue! Check in with @PVDlive for all of the updates.
It was a quick 48 hour trip this time around! Have you ever visited Providence before? What am I missing!?
This post is written in partnership with Go Providence and Providence Marriott Downtown, as always, my opinions are my own.
