I’m not going to lie. At first, Miami wasn’t for me. I didn’t understand it. Its vibrant melting pot of cultures. Its art deco architecture. Its traffic caused by the seemingly never-ending construction. How expensive everything was. But then something just clicked in me. And my perception of Miami completely changed overnight. Part of the reason I fell in love with Miami was because of a little place called Circa 39.
With the cool salty breeze on my shoulders and the sun shining on my face we made our way to check in. First impressions are everything and let me tell you Circa 39 does not disappoint. Once you step inside you’ll see why it’s a happy home for explorers at heart. At first glance you’ll see travel quotes collaged on the walls, colorful décor, and an eclectic mix of patterns. You’ll slowly begin to pick up on the beachside simplicity mixed with old world comfort and vibrancy that is Miami. After you grab an Oriental Crush from the WunderBar, you’ll be hooked for life.
Circa 39, on Collin’s Ave, is just across the street from Miami’s white sandy beaches. You can expect to see an abundance of colorful lifeguard stands all begging to be photographed. Don’t worry, chairs and towels are provided! After a day in the sun, grab a fresh coconut and walk the shaded boardwalk.
Mirroring the rest of the hotel, you’ll feel all the wanderlusty vibes as soon as you open the door. Because part of this hotel is made of converted apartment buildings, our room was through the courtyard garden that connects the East and West parts of the property. Our room was spacious complete with palm tree views that perfectly accented the green wallpaper.
First things first, the pool. This is located right off of the WunderBar. So you can enjoy bites and libations poolside in your very own cabana. After a day of lounging escape to the gym for a quick workout. You’ll want to prepare yourself for the crazy evening festivities of Miami!
If you’re looking to escape the beach Ubers are easily accessible and take you all over Miami! If you’re looking for ideas on where to go head to beyondcirca39.com. The team at Circa has done the leg work for you. They’ve created mini itineraries for five different neighborhoods in Miami. My favorite spot this trip was Wynwood! I loved roaming the streets and discovering new art around every corner.
The Salty Donut– An absolute must. Tucked away from the main street in Wynwood lies this sweet gem. The Salty Donut has a variety of donuts daily, all made fresh…daily! They offer the classics like Boston Crème and Glazed, but with their own twist. I enjoyed a gluten free, vegan Sweet Potato Pie donut. Complete with a chocolate crusted bottom, gingersnap streusel, and whiskey infused marshmallow. I know… you’re drooling.
Panther Coffee– I am a coffee connoisseur and a coffee snob. Panther knows their coffee. The best cold brew coffee I’ve ever had!
Coyo Taco– Another Wynwood must. Located on one of the main streets in the neighborhood, you can’t miss it. Plan to eat lunch here. If you’re into Falafels they have the most delicious Falafel taco. Ugh, I’m drooling just thinking about it. PS get a side of guac!
Wood Tavern – This was my favorite bar in Wynwood. Maybe because of the people we met or maybe because of the delicious craft beer or the really good music. Whatever it was. I’ll be back for you Wood Tavern!
The Walls– These murals need no introduction.
We loved staying at Circa 39. It’s the perfect spot for a girlfriend getaway! With beach access and knowledgeable staff you are bound to keep busy and discover the charm of Miami. Like I said before, at first glance Miami can be intimidating. It’s a massive city with so much to offer you just have to figure out how to navigate it. With the help of the staff at Circa 39 and a vision in mind, we were able to plan an itinerary that was just what we were looking for.
The Sunny Side of Things was a welcomed guest of Circa 39, as always our opinions are always our own.
