A Quick Guide to Kennebunkport, Maine

Let me be frank. I’ve read many guides to Kennebunkport and Maine in general. But for some reason they just don’t do it for me. Maybe because I’m bias and have so much love for my state that I think no one can rep it quite like I can. Hey, at least I am being honest. I wanted to write up a quick guide for one of the most beautiful spots in Maine. Prior to this weekend I had never explored Kennebunkport so when I had the chance to stay with the Kennebunkport Resort Collection I just had to jump on it. I had one full weekend by the sea and this is what I did.

STAY

When you head to Kennebunkport the question of “where do I stay” should not, no, does not exist. Kennebunkport Resort Collection has eight wonderful and extremely different options to choose from. I had the pleasure of staying with The Tides Beach Club. An oceanfront property with just 21 luxurious guest rooms perfectly designed with a king or queen bed, Frette linens, sweeping ocean views, and contemporary nautical accents around every corner. Um, can you say heaven?

One of my favorite things about this hotel, aside from the beachfront (which if you’re following me on Instagram you already know is flawless) are the coffee table books. I am a sucker for really good coffee with a good coffee table book, The Tides has both. You’ll find everything from a book of spells to the worlds greatest yoga retreats to books about far off lands like Berlin and Bahia. Let’s not forget the real seller on this place: complimentary breakfast which you can enjoy downstairs in the sunroom or in the comfort of your own bed. Choose wisely!

Another thing to take advantage of while staying at any of the resorts are the restaurants. The Tides Beach Club restaurant has enough options to keep you full for an entire weekend. And the drinks, those are really good too. A few of my favorites from The Tides are the edamame, buffalo shrimp, and the Figgin’ Delicious cocktail (don’t ask questions just order it).

Also worth mentioning, Hidden Pond. Hidden Pond is another resort in the KRC family tucked in the woods of Kennebunkport complete with a treehouse spa. The words “slow down, breathe deeply” are echoed throughout. And Earth is the restaurant at Hidden Pond. This restaurant is unparalleled with fresh, organic vegetables from the onsite gardens, caught-the-same-day-its-consumed fish, house-made donuts served warm, and other local ingredients added to every carefully crafted dish. The interior reflects its outside surroundings bringing in dim, warm lighting, tree stumps covering the walls, an apple tree suspended from the ceiling, and a very unique private dining experience in the Potting Shed. I’m not even going to attempt to explain the Potting Shed experience because the only way I can describe it is: Narnia.

DO

Kennebunkport is a quintessential New England town with colorful buildings, window boxes on every window, fresh seafood in every restaurant, salt water smells and a cool ocean breeze. The downtown area is filled with shops but don’t be afraid to stray away. Head to Motorworld, a lighthouse, St. Anne’s Church, Goose Rocks Beach, Cape Porpoise, Cape Arundel or Antiques on Nine.

Another favorite is Snug Harbor Farm. A botanists dream. A bloggers playground. And perhaps the greenest place in all of Kennebunkport. In this off the beaten path place you can expect to find chickens, geese, a peacock, bunnies, mini ponies (YES, they exist) and too many plants to count. The building that stands now is the same building that was built back in 1850. There is also a shop where you can purchase anything from plants to blankets to leather goods. So. Many. Sundries.

EAT

The options are endless. Some of my favorites are David’s, Rococo Ice Cream, Mornings in Paris, Allison’s, Ports of Italy, and Dock Square Coffee House. Just to name a few. A recurring theme is breakfast, coffee and ice cream. What can I say, I know what I like.

THE KRC EXPERIENCE

The seaside towns of New England are so alike and so different at the same time. From the fresh seafood to local shops to locally owned hotels, each town has them but its up to you to discover their differences. With true New England charm, Kennebunkport is hard to beat. Staying with the Kennebunkport Resort Collection enriches your Kennebunkport experience beyond the time you spend there. You’ll make memories that will last a lifetime around some of the worlds kindest, most hospitable people. Everyone is there to help you create the best experience possible. A big thank you to Brenda, Rachel and the rest of the KRC team that made my first Kennebunkport experience one for the books!

The Sunny Side of Things was a welcomed guest of The Tides Beach Club, but as always, our opinions are our own.
