Fashion Friday: Cropped Denim

As you read on Instagram, I am 5’2”. And shopping for jeans, jackets, and even shirts can be tough when they don’t come in petite. But sometimes I can get away with purchasing “regular” sizes. I was so excited when I found these cropped jeans; the flare has definitely made a comeback.

I wanted a bold look. So, IΒ paired an oversized cardigan with cropped flare denim. I chose to wear a bright flight to add a pop of color. You may be shaking your head in dismay that I paired cropped flare denim with a pair of flats. You might even be asking yourself “why didn’t she wear wedges?” To be honest, I didn’t want to. I have a very bad ankle and walking through the cobblestone and brick streets of Portland doesn’tΒ pair well with wedges and a weak ankle. That’s actually an accident waiting to happen.

My photographer (hi mom) wasn’t crazy about this look when she first saw it, it took some convincing. But what attracted me to creating this outfit was the loose, relaxed silhouette. Perfect weekend attire.

I loved the fit and flare cropped denim with the oversized cardigan. Underneath I wore my favorite knit top from Aritzia. This was more form fitting than the rest of the look so it balanced it all out. So if you’re wanting to create a similar look, opt for at least one form fitting piece.

When wantingΒ to turn a casual look up a notch, I always go for flats that come to a point. Not only do they elongate your legs but they mimic the same look and feel as a stiletto, sans toe crunching.
