I am no nutritionist but is doesn’t take a genius to know that grapefruit is a fruit from the heavens. Both deliciously tart and rich in Vitamin C, it is what I like to call a health jackpot. You can eat it straight up, grilled, like an orange, or infuse your water (or vodka seltzer) with it! My grandmother swore by grapefruit and I think she may have passed that down to me. No complaints.
1.Rich in Vitamin C
I’m sure you could have guessed my number one reason for loving grapefruit is that it is rich in Vitamin C! Vitamin C helps support your immune system fight off and lessen symptoms of influenza and the common cold and even inflammatory conditions like asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. And during these winter months getting your daily dose Vitamin C is crucial.
2.Works as a fat burner
Grapefruit is naturally fat-free and full of water and fiber (two things that make you feel full). Studies have even shown that grapefruit has compounds that reduce insulin levels, stabilizing your blood sugar. Pair it with breakfast, lunch or dinner for a low calorie option to nix those pesky cravings and to feel fuller longer.
3.Grapefruit as an essential oil
I’ve been reading so much about essential oils lately and grapefruit is as the top of my list to try! Grapefruit essential oil has been linked to helping with migraines, depression, and even jet lag (okay, I am convinced I need to try this now). To use: apply topically, a brief inhale, add one to two drops to water, or diffuse it and fill your home with the sweet, citrusy aromas.
